If you self published thru Amazon Kindle, can you still get an agent?

You can still query agents for new/unpublished work, but unless you can show significant sales on the self-published work, they'll probably consider you in the same category as an unpublished writer. Generally they aren't going to be interested in the already self-published work.

I actually think there are a lot of opportunities out there for self-published authors. More and more of them are being picked up by traditional publishers, and often, an agent comes with the territory. And there's certainly no rule saying you can't get an agent if you've self-pubbed.

BUT I don't think self-publishing is the way to get an agent's attention. As @MarieDees says, your sales will play a role and if it falls flat (skyrocketing to self-pub fame is rare, as you likely know--so a book can still be a great book w/o "making it"), it could work to your disadvantage, even though there are a ton of other factors to consider (marketing and publicity efforts, whether or not you had your book pro edited, etc.).
