Short Bio:

For me, writing is a labor of love. I take what we know of a historical event and combine it with action, adventure, colorful characters, and a touch of humor. My inspiration for this first Honorman novel came while reading Robert Lacey’s Great Tales from English History. I had read about the tragic sinking of the White Ship before, however this time a thought occurred to me, ‘What if someone besides that butcher survived?’ And the ‘what ifs’ kept coming. I finished the outline within a week and have never enjoyed a writing project more. All writers find inspiration in the authors they read and enjoy. Some of the authors I admire are Larry McMurtry, Hunter S. Thompson, Hilary Mantel, Stephen King, Daphne du Maurier, Richard Adams, John Kennedy Toole, David McCullough, J.K. Rowling, and Edward Rutherford, to name but a few. I live in Connecticut, where I am hard at work on the second Honorman novel, set in the 15th century a midst the fractious houses of York and Lancaster.

About D M ORourke's Reading & Writing

I started with Nancy Drew and Victoria Holt novels, and had quickly moved on to In Cold Blood by the time I was twelve. History novels have always been a passion. Currently obsessed with Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bones; she knows every thought in Cromwell's head. The funniest book I ever read was Confederacy of Dunces. I laughed so hard when Ignatius J Reilly's signed a letter with 'Yours-In-Anger.' I had to put the book down. H.S. Thompson, Steven King, were mainstays. Love Donna Tartt as well; I liked The Little Friend maybe even more than The Secret History, and I loved The Secret History: they went to the funeral for God's sake! Larry McMurtry is almost always a good for me; Lonesome Dove is in my top five favorites. Always looking for the big wrap-yourself-up in a new world read. Running through the Games of Thrones series now. Loved the Harry Potter series; July hasn't been the same since she stopped. I read the New Yorker every week, if only for the cartoons some weeks
