About Carl Harper's Reading & Writing

It's said that writer's write because they can't help themselves. That pretty much sums up most of my experience. I've written for the fun of it for years, but never put much effort into getting anything published. I'm here hoping for some honest critiques, because, as much as I enjoy writing, I have no idea if I'm any good! As far as reading goes, I've always been a fan of classics. A book that's still being read a century after it's publishing date is probably pretty good. I've delved into more contemporary books in the last few years. I wish I had started sooner. It's really exciting to read something good and know that there's a chance I could actually meet the author someday. I've always had a weakness for sci-fi. As a genre, I don't think it gets the respect deserves. Beyond being a herald of human achievement, it can comment on contemporary society with a freedom that most other genres aren't afforded. I'm also fond of evil cyborgs, which you just don't get in romance.
