Short Bio:

A writer / editor in the Arizona desert, working on a coming-of-age novel set at a Phoenix swap meet in 1980. I call Tucson home, but right now I'm living in Phoenix--the place where people go to disappear. I am not trying to disappear, though. I have an MFA in both fiction and creative non-fiction writing and an MPA in non-profit management. I'm working on combining the two degrees into a non-profit for aspiring writers with my co-conspirators, Renee Bibby and Lela Scott MacNeil. Currently, I run a novel critique group in Tucson and a group to sustain writing goals in Phoenix, and am making a living as a freelance editor. Most often, I work with first-time authors who have strong scientific backgrounds, who have interesting stories and characters, but are working through the process of how to get that on paper effectively.

About robin israel's Reading & Writing

Arlie is a 14-year-old caught in the midst of family problems and seeking a way to find her place in the world. Leave the Frigging Marshmallows is set at a Phoenix swap meet in 1980 and deals largely with being a girl in a certain period of time—a time in which American culture was deep in confusion and during a rise in pseudo-psychology and social transformation, a time when everyone seems to be wrestling with identity, and if anyone is certain they know how things work, they are surely living in the past. Arlie struggles with independence, feminism, sexuality, family, and the impact it all has on the formation of the self of a young person.
