Carioca

Gender:Male
Location:Curitiba, Non US/Canadian, BRA
Preferred Genres:Memoir, Narrative Nonfiction, Travel, Comedic fiction, Historical fiction, Postapocalyptic/Dystopian

Short Bio:

I started writing for the then fledgling Austin Chronicle back in 1980. Since then, I have published too many magazine and newspaper articles in too many magazines and newspapers to count. I have also written one book, which was published in Korean. Since the advent of the internet making money as a freelance writer has become decidedly more difficult, but finding information has become much easier.

About Carioca's Reading & Writing

I adhere to the adage that "Truth is stranger than fiction, " and for this I much prefer non-fiction to fiction. My favorite authors are able to set the scene using carefully chosen dialogue.
Favorite Writers:
Joseph Heller, Cormac McCarthy, Sue Townsend, Paul Theroux, Jon Krakauer, Ed Abbey, Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley
Favorite Books:
The Road (first book I read entirely in Korean) Catch 22, Mosquito Coast, O-Zone, Brave New World, Adrian Mole series, anything by Jon Krakauer or Kurt Vonnegut, most things by Ed Abbey, Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, Moby Dick
