I was born in Chicago to Sudanese parents and grew up in Sudan, United States, and Kenya. My writing draws on my belief in the universality of the human experience, of the resilience of people. I'm excited about having the opportunity to fulfill my long held dream of writing. I'm a third year resident in internal medicine.

I have pretty eclectic taste. I read non-fiction mostly feminist Muslim literature, history likes of Fatima Mernissi, and Assea Djebar, and mystical realism Isabelle Allende, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, romance novels Jayne Ann Krentz, and YA Ann Brashers, and Jay Asher.
