Short Bio:

Growing up I was a fan of storytelling and often retreated into a world of books, whether fantasy, horror or the occasional nonfiction. My father was a great "fib teller" and made my world a little greater with each tall tale, usually trying to frighten us and see whether my sister or I could be taken in by his ideas. Being the youngest it was usually me who believed the longest. Somewhere between the little kid who died on a rollercoaster and whose spirit still haunts Six Flags after evening or the idea of Santa Clause, my parents were genuine storytellers. I learned at seven that I was a little talented myself and have not stopped writing on paper since. By sixth grade I was into shock story telling and loved a great and traumatic ending, something my friends would run copies of and pass through the school to everyone. I grew up to enjoy writing fan fiction, acquired a reader base of near 300 at fourteen. After that, it has been just me and my random college fic contest w/o focus.

About Manic Mouse's Reading & Writing

I read anything I can grab ahold of. Right now I am reading King's short stories from 1994 that were too mature for me. My father has a genuine obsession with Stephen King, so I know the nuggets of genius are there to be revealed. Graphic novelist and storyteller Neil Gaimen has endless amounts of story to draw from, some of such phenomenon and with the invisible touch of symbolic theory. Classes on the French Lit Movement may be in order. Gaimen is a French native. An author with a dark sense of reality who can truly make fear come to life, without ever entering the genre of horror, is Joyce Carol Oates. Novella to novel, she addresses the emptiness humanity afflicts, an ongoing fight in desire and social restriction. The mileu of character v. social ambiance can create symbol. Tolstoy's Anna Karenina is rich with intellectual narration, never losing voice to describe her madness of love. Omg j finished reading Animal Farm and it was great! Now Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury! -rb
