Short Bio:
Anna Steegmann, a native of Germany, is the bilingual writer and translator. She has lived in New York City since 1980. She has cowritten this script for the German film "New York Memories", written the radio feature " A Letter from Harlem" for German public radio Her English texts have been published in The New York Times, Promethean, Epiphany, sic, Dimension2 , in several anthologies of The Wising Up Press, Absinthe, guernicamag.com, Diverse Voices Quarterly, and ezratranslation.com. Her German texts have appeared in Salbader, Rheinische Post, TextArt, Sächsische Zeitung, Trans-Lit2 and Taz. She has written the screenplay “New York Memories” for German Public TV, directed by Rosa von Praunheim, and has translated three books from German to English for W.W. Norton. Her essay Mein Harlem was selected Notable Essay of 2007 for The Best American Essays 2008.
Anna lives in New York City, teaches Writing at City College New York and at the International Summer Academy Venice, Italy.
