A native of Cleveland, I've now spent more than half my life in North Carolina. My home in central Durham was for 30 years the residence of retired Esquire editor Bob Sherrill, a leading force in New Journalism. I sometimes imagine his ghost reviewing my work.

About Ken Macdonald's Reading & Writing

After finally reading "Moby-Dick, " I went through a brief spell of reading novels inspired by it: "Railsea, " "The Art of Fielding." Since then, it's been varied. I loved "City of Bohane" by Kevin Barry - I'll miss that world, for all its violence. As I write this, I've just started "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, " by Rachel Joyce.
Favorite Writers:
TC Boyle, Thomas Pynchon, Michael Chabon
