As it is with music and cooking, I read and write anything and everything that can be said to be full of soul. I do my best to balance daily fiendings for news content, creative nonfiction, and fiction. I love history and culture and cities and epic expressions of the everyday and the innermost. I love language and writing that captures, transports, and transcends its medium.
In addition to weekly postings about my fascination with the world, I am hard at work on a novel set in rural Missouri during the outbreak of the Civil War. It's the story of three siblings set adrift in the wildness that seized the area and their struggle to survive amid everyday realities, the North, the South, and the brutal guerrilla warfare that tore Missouri apart.
