About Joao Neto's Reading & Writing

Even though most of my writing still comes out in Portuguese, being in New York created new possibilities for me to express myself and after some time here, it still amazes me how some things are developed in English whereas other topics in Portuguese or Spanish. For example, it seems challenging to write about some situations in New York City in any language other than English. And as a result of that some of my own pieces started coming out in English. Maybe it is the influence of where I live at the moment, maybe it is the influence of my growing up reading in English. Lately my writings have expressed this linguistic bipolarity that I've been living with. Teaching Spanish and Portuguese, daily life in English, studying other languages... well, actually it is more than bipolar, through time I guess I've developed multiple linguistic personalities...
