I will read anything...once... but I rarely enjoy fiction where the main emphasis is on the paranormal, horror or romance. All three can be powerful elements in a story but when they are the focus of the story I find most of them to be rather predictable - good always defeats evil and love always triumphs in the end.
I would far rather read something fresh and innovative in the sci-fi genres where the characters and plot push the boundaries of what is plausible while still keeping a toe-nail firmly hooked in the realm of the possible.
In my own writing I tend to fuse sci-fi and fantasy, so although my characters may possess the odd fantasy skill they can only use those skills within the constraints of the world in which they live and that world always has rules that cannot be broken, even by the author :)
As a person I value courage and integrity and I tend to put those values into whatever I write. My current story - Vokhtah - is about psychopathic aliens but they do have honour.
