I am, without a doubt, a Science-Fiction and Fantasy fanatic. I've read some crime drama, as well as techno-thrillers, so I'm not closed to other genres, but there's an uphill climb when considering other reading.
Since that has been such a signature part of my entertainment my first instinct and interest is to write in the same fields. I appreciate a technical fluency with words and subject matter, and expect (or try to provide) a certain level of verisimilitude, if not realism in what I read and write. If you can't live what you want to write or have no life experience with it, you can research it.
Action, adventure, excitement, intrigue, emotional connection: these are the elements I crave in my stories, and hope to provide to my readers.
