I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction. I am particularly inspired by biographies and autobiographies. I get inspired by reading the obituaries in magazines like The Economist or The Week. I read different books at different points in the year. Because I teach high school English I often prefer to read non-fiction as outside reading during the school year while I spend my summers reading fiction and listening to non-fiction on CD on road trips.
My best writing is brief and often non-fiction. My attempts at fiction have only fleeting appeal as I am quickly bored by either my characters or plot and lose interest in telling the story before I reach a suitable turning point.
