I was completely hooked on reading at the age of 8 when I finished "The Secret Garden'. That was back in the day when teachers actually read a chapter of a book in class at the end of each week. I went home and told my Mother about it and she said, "I have that book here". She found it and I finished it over the weekend. A year or two later, I decided that it wasn't enough just to read books and I started writing stories. My Grandmother told me, "Don't ever write anything that you don't want the whole world to know". Smart lady. Who knew that, years later, E-mail and Facebook would appear? Once it's out there. it's floating around forever.
