About the Book:

The terror threat against London inspires hysteria and mass panic. There are night-time raids, arrests, and barricades all around Whitehall. People believe religious fanatics are stockpiling weapons: this is England, 1678. Nat Thompson is a successful writer and Licenser of the Presses. He's recently married and juggling the demands of a heavy workload and an attractive young wife. A prominent Protestant magistrate is murdered convincing everyone but Nat that Titus Oates' revelations of Catholic plotting are true. Against all advice, Nat embarks on a journey to bring Titus Oates, the chief informant and vindictive preacher, to justice. The story is told by Nat and his wife Anne. She’s a clever, determined young woman struggling to find her way in a marriage that has taken her out of her social circle. And Anne will have her own battles to fight with Titus Oates - with or without her husband's help.
