About the Book:

Rhiannon “Ree” Reyes is doing her best to get by on a minimum-wage job at Café Xombi, a comics, coffee, and game shop in perpetually-rainy Urbanopolis in the weeks before Halloween, while trying to put her life together after being dumped by her boyfriend of three years. When a scruffy-looking guy storms into the shop looking for a comic like his life depends on it, Ree writes it off as just another day in the land of the geeks, until a gigantic ‘BOOM!’ echoes from the alley a minute later, leaving only shreds of comic paper in the alley. Ree falls into the city’s subculture of obsession-driven magicians, where former astral cowboy hackers fight trolls, rubber-suited werewolves and sparkle-vampires by channeling the genre tropes of their favorite fandom and wielding nostalgia-powered props. Ree learns the magical arts of Geekomancy, emulating genres and wielding geek artifacts while helping the scruffy-but-earnest Eastwood investigate a string of teen suicides.

About the Author:

Michael works as an independent publishers' representative. In his free time, he dances Argentine Tango and studies Renaissance martial arts.

Author's Note:

This novel was discovered here by Adam Wilson and purchased in a two-book deal for Pocket Books. I'll be updating it to later drafts and leaving a few chapters up for promotion and to honor what Book Country has meant for this work and my career. Currently showing the version after line edits, and before copy edits. This is the equivalent of an advanced uncorrected proof.
