hello all!

I stumbled over a link on facebook to this forum today and thought I'd join and check it out.

I'm a fantasy artist trying to get serious with my writing, the two has been going hand in hand for as long as I can remember but I never thought I'd actually be able to turn the writing part into something useful.
Who could possibly be interested in reading something spawned by the mind of a crazy artist right? ... well, apparently there are a few of those, so why not try and get something published one day and see where it goes : )

That said, I'm not a native english speaker. I'm swedish and certainly have no real experience with writing. So i try to get involved in forums like this to learn and maybe improve the things I do. And I hope to meet new people and maybe make some friends along the way.

Hi Elin!

Good to meet you. I'm glad you decided to join. You'll see we have a pretty big fantasy crowd here.

My name is Nevena and I'm the Book Country assistant. I'm a fellow European, and I think it's wonderful you want to be a writer. The language barrier shouldn't stop you from fulfilling your dream. (It's my personal credo!)

Below is a guide we put together for writers who are new to the site. It will answer some questions you might have about the reading & reviewing projects, but feel free to reach out to me with any comments/queries!

Cheers,

Dear Elin,

Welcome to Book Country! Your initial impressions are right -- the members here are really nice. (They're also honest and upfront when critiquing your book.)

I second Nevena. Don't let the language barrier stop you. Think about all of the great writers who wrote in English, even though it's wasn't their native tongue. (Nabakov, one of my favorites, comes to mind, but I know there are many others.) Nevena just did a spotlight on Nicholas Katar, who goes by Voran around here, English isn't his native language either. Maybe he can give you some tips. (Here's the link to the spotlight: https://www.bookcountry.com/Industry/Article.aspx?articleId=140360)

Here are some forums that might interest you:
This one is about the fun in fantasy:

This one has been around for a long time, and it's a great discussion to join about females in fantasy:

Our general writing forum is a great place to go for writing advice:

If you need anything, please reach out to me or Nevena. I can be found around here, as brandilarsen on Twitter and at brandi at bookcountry dot com.
