The landmark books are essential to the functionality of Book Country's awesome genre map.  During today's #bookcountry discussion, the topic of adding landmark books came up, and it was suggested to make it a discussion topic.

So, here's the question:  What books do you think are missing from the genre map?  We're looking for books that are emblematic of a genre and a tone, to help us as readers and writers group books and find works that hit our sweet spots.

Thanks for starting the chat, Michael. Just to be clear, though, the way the map works is that we have one Landmark book for each genre and tone (or at least that was our goal--there were some we couldn't find!). So we won't really be "adding" to the map unless it's a point on the map we don't have filled yet.

BUT we'd still love to hear your suggestions! That's the great thing about discussion forums like this--you can put in your two cents. And if people agree with you and y'all show us that X would be a better Landmark than Y of a particular genre and tone, who knows what changes we might make!

The other option would be finding notable books that bridge tones or sort by primary and secondary tones, the same way we do our entries. That would multiply the number of Landmarks, and give examples of primary and secondary tones.

However, that's a great deal of extra thinking and chatting, which requires we have folks who are very excited to have that discussion (either for replacing the current Landmarks or adding more).
