Book Tours

I would love to get the authors' opinions on book tours.  In January, I created Book Lovin' Bitches Ebook Tours and have had over 100 books submitted as tour candidates since then.  What I'm wondering is:  What is your general opinion of book tours as promotional tools, and what do you look for when considering submitting your book?  Thanks!

Hi Fade!

I'm guessing that you're asking the writers on this site for answers, but as a former publicity director, lemme throw in my two cents.

I love blog tours. I worked primarily with sf/f and pop culture titles, so it was frequently hard to get the budget for a real live in-person tour for my authors. I started setting up blog tours for them instead.

Two things I always looked for were the number of unique visitors per day (I was looking for upwards of a thousand or more unique users a day) and the level of engagement of those users. IE, how active were the comment threads for each post. Reader engagement makes all the difference, I think.

Cheers!
