i've been here awhile, but since the announcement of the closing of authonomy.com, i wondered if this might be a good place for that community to reconnect.

katie o'rourke, finding charlie

It isn't like Charlie to stay out all night without calling, but maybe Olivia doesn't know her little sister as well as she thought.

The police aren’t concerned when Charlie vanishes without warning, but the people who love her are worried sick. Even if the law considers her an adult at nineteen, Charlie's still the baby of her already broken family. Older sister Olivia is determined to figure out what's happened. She finds a lost cell phone, an abandoned car and a shady boyfriend she'd never met before. And he's not the only secret Charlie's been keeping.

This disappearance feels uncomfortably familiar, reminding Olivia and her father of another loss years before. But this will be different, Olivia swears. Charlie's coming back.

Hi Katie

Great idea. I've been signed up for a while but not really explored properly. Looks a good site though.

I'm hoping this site will work for all the lost Authonomites.  I've been participating a little on this site and like it.  Glad to know you're here.

Hi Katie,

Just to say, I'm here!

And also, I need to apologise.  I thought I was clicking on 'post', and I clicked onto 'report post.'  I'll try to contact the admin to tell them it was a mistake.  Proof that I'm a complete idiot.

Hi, Katie

To connect with a member, go to their profile and click 'send connection request'. Then, if the other member clicks 'accept', then you'll be able to send each other private messages.

Hope that helps!

Amber

Hi all!

Forum's set up a bit differently here...going to take some getting used to--but hey! We don't have to fiddle with html to get our fonts emphasized, that's a plus.

Hello to all the new Book Country members and welcome!

If you need any help with anything as you find your way around, please let me know. You can find me here on Book Country, of course, or email me at lucy@BookCountry.com.

We've got this tutorial that will help you get started workshopping (though I see some of you have done so already) and I also wanted to point out this video that explains how the site works.

You might also enjoy this video with two of our MVP members, Alex Rosa and Alys Arden, talking about how the Book Country community has been helpful to them. Also, in your account confirmation email, you received a link to "Treat Your Book Like a Start-Up" which is our guide for why we think writers should get involved on Book Country. There's a PDF of that here as well.

Don't hesitate to reach out with questions or just to connect! Thanks for joining us here on Book Country!

Welcome y'all! Refugee Authonomites will breath new life into this place and get the party started. If you have a book to upload, just do a critique of a book on here (may I suggest one of mine) then yours will be ready for critiques as well. Revamps and reloads are highly encouraged. I'll miss Authonomy much less, now that you folks have joined us here.   biggrin

Hi folks! I vaguely recall (or I think I recall) joining Authonomy a few years ago, but never visited much and forgot all about it. What happened to it?

Hi Lucy! We are refugees from a writer's site that's closing and were wondering...how committed is Penguin Random House to this site? We'd hate to move 60-100 active members and our critique groups and writing competitions etc. over here, and then have this site close too. How many members do you have? How safe is the future of the site? And how often does Penguin publish the members' books? (As opposed to, helping members self publish.)

It is closing end of Sept, Mimi.

Apparently, I'm here, too, but I'm not really certain where I am.  Can anybody verify that I'm actually here?

Apparently you're not here! I tried to do a search on your username to connect with you and you don't exist.

Sorry.

I've arrived but not had much chance to look around yet.

I need to go find a book to review so I can post something of my own. Anyone want to pitch something?

Never mind. Found it. There is a little thing under discussion that looks like an envelope that allows subscription to a thread...

Actually, that's the one thing I haven't had a chance to check out yet, but I do have Aurarin's Song up if you'd like to see how the review system works out on a friendly, not quite so unknown face. (Gives me a chance to check out the quotes and links here too, so no worries if you'd rather pass)

Will do. As it happens, I'd already had it tagged as one to look at after I saw you mention the fact of it being up here over on one of the Authonomy threads.

Crikey, there's a growing crowd!  Let's make sure that we all connect with each other.  I think I've got most people so far.  I found Rob.  Search him with his full name.  If he accepts my connection request, you'll also be able to find him on my profile page under my connections.  You're not invisible, Rob.  I've seen you!

By the way, can you post photos and pictures on here?

Muahahaha!

I searched for you and instead of getting to a profile, I only see your recent discussions. So yes, you don't exist. tongueout

Not happy with the discussions/thread design and such.

And no pics. Why can't I see ppl?! Oh, they don't exist. I see.

I'll talk to my voices again then.

i see you rob! and kali! and gail! i feel like dorothy in the wizard of oz....

i've messaged lucy about some of my concerns about the functionality of the forums. there is  way to see the most active posts, but it's super convoluted. i think the best way to see if this will work is to post some threads and try it out.

good to see you all!

ps- you can edit posts and redlips

Wasn't Autonomy affiliated with a publisher? Who? How did that go? A number of folks have been picked up for trad publishing on here.

Yes, Authonomy was run by HarperCollins. Although they said the purpose of the site was to find new writers, they hadn't published anything from there for the past eighteen months. Now they've pulled the plug on it. Their loss, in my opinion, considering that a lot of talented writers are moving from there to here.
