Overseas or Not?

Here's another one I am going to throw out there; is it a good idea to send submissions to a well known publisher overseas?

If that publisher accepts queries, why not? In general, though, the tastes of different cultures overlap, but are different. So the best sales will be to your own culture. If you can't sell a publisher in your own country...

 

What genre are you writing in? Other than romance and sci-fi, most publishers won't look at anything directly, and expect you to go through an agent.

@Woodburner--I like that you think big!

 

Before I started working at Book Country, I wrote freelance book reviews for the Globe and Mail in Canada. It was really fun to read fiction published in Canada, and to see what books the newspaper wanted to cover (somewhat different than what might be reviewed in a US paper), and really fun to work with an editor who lived in another country. Let us know if you end up taking an international route with your book!
