Could be fun!
1000 words though; that's a tough one for me. My short stories tend to organically hang out at the 1500 word mark at the very least. Cutting to 1k would be like ripping a third of the canvas from the painter!  Still, one never reaches potential while hiding in one's comfort zone. I may well have to give it a go.
